Energy Assistance Program
LIHEAP is a federally funded program that issues heating benefits to supplement a household’s annual energy cost. LIHEAP program was started in 1981 and is funded by federal government. LIHEAP also offers an emergency benefit for households in a heat or heat related energy emergency. Additionally, LIHEAP offers a heating equipment repair and/or replacement benefit for homeowners with inoperable heating equipment.
Percentage of Income Payment Plan
PIPP helps make monthly payments towards utility bills more affordable. It is available for households qualifying for LIHEAP.
People's Gas Share The Warmth Grants are for eligible customers who need help paying their bills.
Share the Warmth provides heating grants to limited and fixed-income households. Eligible customers can receive grants of up to $200 on their bills.
Low Income Household Water Assistance Program provides funds to assist low-income households with water and wastewater bills.
The Utility Billing Relief Program (UBR) is a City of Chicago program intended to make water and sewer bills more affordable for qualifying Chicago residents.
The Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) helps low income residents and households conserve fuel and reduce energy costs by making their homes and apartments more energy efficient.
HWAP also provides many health and safety upgrades ensuring safe and healthy homes. Energy conservation and health and safety measures provided through home weatherization can ensure that citizens have access to more affordable energy services.
This component of LIHEAP will be provided to those low income households that qualify for reconnection assistance, but do not have a heating supply or operating furnace for their home. What can be paid for includes repair, tune-up, or the replacement of a furnace.
